Elgar’s ‘The Apostles’ video

I hope you’re enjoying your summer.

This short blog is just to let you know that our Pax Christi Chorale video of Elgar’s masterpiece ‘The Apostles’ is now live on Youtube.

This was my swan song, April 29 and 30, 2017; a sweet farewell after 20 years conducting this large oratorio choir. I am indebted to everyone for bringing this performance to life. It represents the culmination of two decades of work for singers, instrumentalists, board members, committee volunteers, audience members, donors, and supporters of all sorts. Thanks so much to our whole Pax Christi community from the bottom of my heart.

Congratulations also go out to all the choir members for achieving an honourable mention in the large choir category of the Canadian National Competition for amateur choirs, and to our chamber choir for winning first place in a very competitive category. Bravo to the 70 choirs across Canada who participated this year – the highest number in the competition’s history.

Yes, I will miss conducting this fine choir and working every Monday night on the greatest music ever written, but I rejoice that I will have five wonderful videos to look back on, and four recordings to listen to when I am ‘old and gray and full of sleep.’

  1. Such, such good memories of the concert – Sunday afternoon in my case. I’m not exaggerating to say it was a highlight of the year, and Pax Christi’s and the soloists performance, here in Toronto, a source of inspiration. Great to see it again, and that’s not something even Mark Elder and the Halle can offer….Good luck with your opera project and other compositions. I’ve been saving the Winter Nights CD I purchased, for this season – not long to wait now.
