Testimonials

Martin’s music, like Willan’s, has its roots in plainchant and Renaissance music and there is a serene quality…conductor and choirs are in a state of mutual understanding and appreciation.

— Alan Spedding, Cathedral Music Magazine

Schola Magdalena has produced its first disc, ‘O Gracious Light’. It’s a treat from beginning to end. Martin makes the roll and rhythm of plainsong sound as natural as breathing.

— John Terauds, Toronto Star

Stephanie Martin’s music is reminiscent of her predecessor [Healey Willan] in style and colour with its free-flowing textures and atmospheric harmonization combined with liberal measures of plain-chant. ‘Alleluia’ is soft and sweet with voicings beautiful, serene and sublime.

— Diane Wells, WholeNote magazine

Pax Christi Chorale, under the leadership of Stephanie Martin, is a fine choir with a lovely, fresh tone. They not only sing with good precision and blend, but they also are able to interpret music with emotional involvement and conviction. Their interesting programming is appealing to many choral fans.

— Ruth Watson Henderson, Canadian composer

Under Stephanie Martin’s sure guiding hand, the Pax Christi Chorale continues to move from strength to strength. The choir is singing very well, and, given Stephanie’s imaginative programming, Toronto audiences are being exposed to a broad spectrum of excellent choral music.

— Howard Dyck, CM, Conductor, Radio Host

…the remarkable work of Pax Christi artistic director Stephanie Martin, who teased out Elgar’s complex leitmotifs with utter clarity as she held an iron command over the hour-and-a-half of music from beginning to end. Here was the full glory of a grand old choral tradition, delivered with great polish and total conviction
