If you’ve been wondering about this opera we’ve been working on, here is a little video that gives you a glimpse of how our work is going, and what you’re going to hear in June when we perform the piece, 100 years to the day after the Llandovery Castle hospital ship went down in the Celtic Sea.
Click here and have a look, and share the video with anyone who might be interested in what we’re doing:
You’ll see director Tom Diamond speaking about the relevance of this story today since hospitals and medical staff, desperately trying to save lives, are still prone to military attacks. Our partners Doctors without Borders have a particular campaign “Not a target” that we hope to connect with this historical subject.
The performances will be at Calvin Church in Toronto near Yonge and St. Clair, on Tuesday June 26 and Wednesday June 27. If you’d like to get tickets, please visit our Llandovery Castle website and you can order tickets online.

Some of my favourite parts: your music (especially the scary stuff that is reminiscent of the Jaws theme and the Peter Gunn theme); Baritone Keith Lam’s cool T-shirt (although not his very coolest; he also has one that proclaims “Mozart is My Homeboy”); the poignant hand-holding near the end.
